Description:

The identities of families at the turn of the 19th and the 20th century

Abstract:

Our western neighbour, Germany, is one of those countries which for many reasons, mostly economic, have become home for millions of Poles. This research is a kind of guide through the culture created in Germany by Poles and Polish societies, in the time of the formation of the United Europe. In the United Europe we have quite new phenomena in culture. There are many elaborations which deal with important historical matters and this subject in the total way, from the perspective of history of Poland and Germany as well as the relationship between these two nations. This research also looks at personal diaries. Supplementing these sources are many kinds of reports from the Senate and Parliamentry Commission of Emigration and Communication with Poles Abroad. Also included is information from official internet web sites dedicated to a number of cultural events which took place in the last couple years. The research focuses on the changes in national – cultural consciousness of Poles in Germany in the last two centuries, showing the will to remain close the ancestral language, faith and culture.
